Ever wondered how to dress a candle? Well, that's what
I'm going to talk about today. So, there are all types of candles. But you can
break them out into three basic categories. Altar candles, astral candles and
petition candles. Today I'm going to talk about petition candles. Specifically,
jar candles. I love to travel and when I do I love to visit botanicals, occult
shops, new-age shops, etc. I peruse their candles and oftentimes I will get
them to dress the candles there at the shop. Generally, it's only about a dollar extra charge. Which isn't bad because they have all the herbs specific to
dressing those candles. So, imagine my surprise when I was at Walmart of all
places the other day and they had a huge selection of jar candles. So, I picked
up a couple of them. One of them being a loved candle because that is one of the areas of focus in my life right now is to draw in a new love. They
also have saint candles. You can pick up the saint that appeals to your
particular need. I also use the book The Magic Candle. And it really
goes into depth about the candles and the different types and the colors and
the different ways of using them. But we'll get more into that later. What I
want to talk about specifically is how to dress a candle.
Dressing The Candle
You want to start with physically cleaning the candle. You want to
clean off any of the wax that's still on there. The dirt from sitting on the
shelf. And then after that you want to actually consecrate the candle to your
specific use or purpose. For me I picked up this attraction oil because again I
want attract all kinds of things like love and money and health. I use a
particular oil that’s really cool. It's got herbs in it that are specific to
drawing. We'll get more into oils in another blog. Basically, now you've cleaned
the candle of all of its wax and debris. Then you want to consecrate the
candle. You want to take some sort of knife. Preferably a knife that's specific
to using for magical purposes. Now it doesn't have to be some special expensive
knife. It can be just a paring knife that you picked up and have set aside for
this purpose. According to the book, what you want to do is inscribe in the top
of the candle a solar cross. Which is just like a plus sign. After you've done
that, you want to take a few drops of your oil and drip it into the jar. You
want to rub that oil in with your first two fingers in a clockwise motion for
drawing.
Using The Candle
After you have your candle, all cleaned and all charged to your
purpose. When you're actually using the candle, you don't want to put the
candle out so you want to put it in someplace. I like to put mine in the
kitchen sink because you never know if the jar is going to crack. Then the wax
is going to go everywhere or you may catch something on fire. You always want
to be careful with candles. If you can't physically be with it then you want to
put it in someplace safe to keep it burning.
