Smudging for Beginners
Ever wondered how to use a smudge stick? Well, that's
what I'm going to talk about today. Smudging is one of the first things that I
do before I do any kind of magic. It helps to cleanse the space. It helps to cleanse
me. My favorite type of smudge stick is made from white stage. You can get it
in different sizes. Made from different material. Each having their different
purposes. But my general go to is white stage.
To Use The Sage
I just use an ordinary lighter to
light it. Then I go around the room, or the house if I'm cleansing the entire
house, in a clockwise motion. I'll start and stop in the same place. Once it
gets good and going sage is really kind of hard to put out. I have a little
terracotta turtle that I filled with a little bit of dirt from my garden. I
just put it out using that. It helps to rest it there as well so that it
catches any the ashes. You can pick some sage up at any new age or occult shop.
Earthbound is a good place to pick some up. Sometimes World Market has it. Or if
you don't have a place in town where you can pick some up you can always order
some on line.
Storage
How do you store your sage when you're not using it? I
just use a simple little piece of felt. Put the sage in it and wrap it up with
a rubber band or a string or something like that. Because it still tends to
stay pretty ashy. Wherever you put it you're going to get ashes everywhere. It’s
simple enough just to wrap it up in a little piece of cloth or a zip lock baggie.
