What Is The Best Incense for Meditation?
States Of Consciousness
Why
do we burn them in the first place? This is a good opportunity for me to tell
you about states of consciousness. When it comes to ritual we are always trying
to get to the alpha state. What does that mean? There are four levels of
consciousness: beta, alpha, theta, and delta.
Beta is the consciousness where if you're talking with somebody and you're in
an activity, that's beta. Alpha is when you are sitting down say at a movie or
in front of the TV. You're in a relaxed state. You have that suspended state of
mind where you can follow a play. You can get emotionally involved in something
even though it's not real because you have that slower brainwave. The alpha state.
Theta is when you are asleep. And delta is when you are say drugged for say a surgery
or something like that.
When we're doing ritual, we will sit first and meditate. Which will help you slow everything down to help us get to that alpha state. But you can also burn incense to help you get to that alpha state. The Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa incense is burned in temples and has a very calming effect. It has notes of jasmine and patchouli which are two of my favorite scents. If I were to have a signature scent it would be jasmine or patchouli. Depending on what I'm doing that day. If I'm out in the woods camping and I can't readily get to a shower it's patchouli. If I'm going out on the town and I want to smell good it's Jasmine. When trying to get to the alpha state it’s Nag Champa. My go-to incense. During ritual I'll burn all kinds of things but outside of ritual the only scent that I ever burn is Nag Champa. It's also my default incense when I am doing any type of ritual.
If
you've followed any of my Making Magic Happen series where I’ve talked about doing
spell work, one of the first things that I do before I do anything is I sit and
I quiet myself. I meditate and I burned Nag Champa incense. If you would like
to pick up some Nag Champa, I'm sure if you're going to find that it's your
favorites too.
